Hiragana Chart with Romaji

Hiragana is the core phonetic script: grammar endings, particles and native words. It is the first thing to learn โ€” you can read real Japanese sentences with hiragana alone. Every cell shows the kana and how to type it. When you can read the main table without the romaji, test yourself with the kana quiz.

Reading tips

Small ใฃ doubles the next consonant (ใใฃใฆ kitte, "stamp"). In katakana, a long dash ใƒผ stretches the vowel (ใ‚ณใƒผใƒ’ใƒผ kลhฤซ). Particles ใฏ, ใธ and ใ‚’ are read wa, e and o. Ready? Switch to the katakana chart or take the quiz.
